May 30 8 Random FactsHere are 8 random facts/habits about myself.
1. I can't sleep with a pillow and without a fan.
2. I wear socks everywhere and 2-3 pairs in the winter as my feet get so very cold. I'm hoping it has something to do with poor circulation due to my back and leg pain. Bah.
3. I absolutely love Daffodils and Asiatic Lilies.
4. A favorite hobby (which is sidelined due to my bad back) is shotgun sports such as Trap and Skeet. I had never touched a gun before a few years ago and now I'm hooked.
5. My favorite TV shows include Survivor, Grays Anatomy, Heroes and Ghost Whisperer. Otherwise I'd much prefer anything on TLC or the History Channel.
6. I love to fish and would love to learn to fly fish.
7. When stitching I (almost) always use the /// \\\ method and not stitch by stitch.
8. And lastly if I could chose to invite 5 people to dinner (dead and alive) there are no doubts on who I would choose: My mom, dad, Dan and his parents. They really missed out on meeting the man who was my father. How awesome would that be?
I was tagged by Angela. Consider yourself tagged. May 28 Memorial Day"Memorial Day is a United States public holiday that takes place on the last Monday of May. It was formerly known as Decoration Day. This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who died in military service for their country. It began first to honor Union soldiers who died during the American Civil War. After World War I, it expanded to include those who died in any war or military action. Today, many Americans use Memorial Day weekend to also honor family members who have passed away."
I miss you, Dad. You made all of us very, very proud. ShelfariHad a friend of mine turn me onto "Shelfari" and I'm hooked. You can create your own bookshelf that works with Amazon.com behind the scenes. If you DO head over there be sure to ask to be added to my group (only accepting friends for now... sorry).
In other worlds - my back is doing "ok" and the ice keeps helping. We're hoping to get more information regarding the surgery procedure in the next week or so and then make our final decision... but it looks like it's being made for me. There's no way I could keep going the way I am currently. *bah* Keep those prayers coming. *hug* Thanks all. May 22 Back UpdateWell, we are home from the specialist and I feel as if I have finally found a doctor who can help me.
I've come away with the doctors suggesting highly a lumbar spinal fusion for degenerative disc disease. This will treat my low back pain and (somewhat more importantly) the severe pain I have that shoots down my legs and also causes weakness. The spine is not actually fused at the time of surgery, but rather over a process set up over 3-6 months with the help of rods placed into the lower back to keep things steady.
Here is an awesome shockwave video of the surgery: http://www.spine-health.com/dir/bonefusion.html
(need shockwave, approx 30 seconds to download and install) D and I ask for warm thoughts and prayers as we make the decision to go forward or not. I will be getting more information regarding just what happens for recovery (all I know so far is 5 days hospital stay following the surgery and 2 months from work) which will also help us come to our final decision.
I'm hanging in there ... but I'm also REALLY missing my "Cross-Stitch" board and all my friends there. It's been down a week now for an upgrade and I'm getting twitchy. *smirk* May 14 Mother's Day WeekendIt was a beautiful late spring/early summer weekend for Mother's day. I was blessed to have both my mom AND Dan's mom and dad here this past weekend. After losing my father I realize just how important these people are in my life. We had a small cook out on saturday afternoon and had a total of 11 people (mostly family) over. Was great to have the time to chat and catch up.
Also got some stitching done yesterday while watching my Cubbies win and while watching the season finale of Survivor. I wasn't happy with the end and what Dreamz did made me want to spit ... but oh well. Poor JMan. Tonight is HEROES so I'm excited. =) May 09 GeoChron World ClockOk, I've seen what I want and I'm going to start saving for it ... slowly.
That way you can see where it's light anywhere in the world. I just think that's the neatest thing. So if you want to send me a couple hundred via paypal, email me and I'll send you my addy. Anything that goes into that account will now be saved and put towards a clock. *chuckle* Maybe. I honestly can't see myself spending that much for a CLOCK ... but oh well, a gal can dream about fancy things - right? May 06 SnifflesSniffle. Sneeze. Cough. *blow nose* Sneeze. Sniffle.
Argh. I hate this time of year on the whole breathing front. My nose is plugged and I'm using kleenex like it's going out of style. Oh well, I'll get through and then be fine until late August and early September when they put down the corn fields. That's always a worse time.
In other news, Dan is working on building a desk for the computers. I can't wait ... it's looking cool! It will be so nice to have the elbow room and get rid of the old tables. We also put flowers in our outdoor planters and added two hanging baskets. Bring on summer.

May 05 Kentucky Derby 133The field is set ... the horses are ready ... and ... they're off!
Ok, not yet. But I'm looking forward to when they leave the post in about 5 hours from now. I've been checking out the kentuckyderby.com and looking over the horses. It'll be a tough field and not even the expecters are sure who might take the win. I'm putting down MY top three just to be able to later say "yup, those were my picks" or more then likely "didn't see THAT coming!."
Win: Storm In May; Juan Leyva in green silks with yellow stars
Place: Hard Spun; Mario Pino in red and white silks with red hat
Show: Teuflesberg; Stewart Elliot in black silks with white diamond
And the final results:
Win: Street Sense; Calvin Borel in yellow with blue
Place: Hard Spun; Mario Pino in red and white silks with red hat
Show: Curlin; Robby Albarado in yellow with vertical blue stripes
Congrats to Calvin Borel (jockey) and trainer Carl Nafzger! Now... onto the Preakness!

Blessings by Anna QuindlenThis was a beautiful story and so well written. The characters pop off the page and you find yourself lost within their world quickly. It is a story of an abandoned child (Faith) and a young man (Skip) who takes her in and cares for her - falling in love with the dependant creature. The bond that forms between these two unlikely souls on the grounds of Blessings mirrors other such connections between other players in the story.
Beautifully told. Brianna's QuiltI received word today that my square has reached LoveQuilts just fine. If you would like to see the gallery of other blocks that will be in the quilt for little Brianna ... they have started to roll in. What a wonderful group of ladies to do so much work to give these children comforting quilts with such beautiful stitching.
May 01 ImmigrationIt's a touchy subject. Immigration.
Today it's front page news on www.cnn.com:
"Protesters descended on city centers across the country Tuesday to press Congress to give the estimated 12 million people in the United States illegally a path to citizenship. Organizers are focusing on raids by immigration officials that separated illegal immigrants from their children, who are U.S. citizens if born in the United States." The only problem I have with doing that is the one word... "illegal." There is nothing new with how illegal is defined. Those who came here without going through the proper channels (which is a tedious, horrible system) know that they skirted the system incorrectly. How do we fix this problem? I don't know. But I DO believe that the system needs fixing and addressing _now_.
*sigh* What a mess. |
